City of Peabody

Settled in 1626 as part of Salem, Peabody was incorporated as a city in 1916. The city was named after noted philanthropist and citizen, George Peabody. Like many other New England towns and cities, Peabody began as a farming community until it became a major center of New England’s leather industry into the second half of the 20th century.
